Hello Flash Families,

A quick reminder that parent volunteer commitments are an important part of making our swim season successful. Each family is asked to complete volunteer points based on the number of swimmers they have on the team (2 points per swimmer). Home meets are worth 1 point, and away meets are worth 2 points.

We still have volunteer opportunities available for upcoming meets. If you have not signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible. Our team is made up of 98% parent volunteers, and we truly cannot run meets without your help.

Even if volunteer spots appear full, please check in with me if you’ll be at a meet and are willing to help. Things come up, and extra hands are always appreciated!

Not sure what to sign up for? Here’s a quick overview of a few roles:

Gathering – One of our most important jobs, especially for 8 & under swimmers. Gatherers help make sure children are lined up and ready for races (including exhibition races). It’s especially helpful to sign up for your child’s age group, but don’t worry—names are written on arms, and I’m always happy to help. A Sharpie is a bonus!

Timer – A great role if you want a front-row view of the action, especially your child’s race! Timers stand at the finish end, clock race times, and report them to the recorder.

Recorder – Records swimmers’ times as relayed by timers.

Scorer – A shaded spot! Scorers enter race results into the computer and help tally scores.

Place Judge – Watches swimmers finish and determines placement (1st, 2nd, etc.). Each judge is responsible for one finishing place and still gets a great view of the races.

A Big Help — Even If You’re Not Volunteering

Even if you are not volunteering at a meet, we ask that all parents please help us by making sure your swimmer is seated in the correct team area and paying attention to when their events are approaching.

Our gatherers work incredibly hard to get swimmers lined up and ready, but they simply cannot spend meet time tracking down children all over the pool deck. When swimmers are difficult to locate, we lose valuable time and risk missing relays and races.

Please help us by encouraging your child to stay with their age group and be ready when called. A little teamwork from everyone helps meets run smoothly for all of our swimmers!
