Info about Year-round Swim
Parents,
As I am sure you are tired of hearing from me, this will likely be the last email until next summer season! I had a few inquiries about year round swimming, so the following is information about McCallie/ GPS Aquatics year round program for those interested! I coach for the McCallie/GPS year round program, so it is what I know the most information about; though Baylor also has a year round program.
The year round swim season matches with the academic school year. Similar to summer swim, the first couple weeks or so are for evaluations to place your child in the group they fit best with. Groups are not set in stone for the whole season; if your child progresses after a couple months, they will likely move up to the next group. Yearround swimming offers a lot more time to focus on technical aspects of stroke development (time that we just don’t have in our month long summer season).
There are meets in year round swimming. They are different from summer league meets in that they are often multi-day meets and your child may swim 3 events one day and then 3 the next (just for example). There are several in town meets that do not require travel. We host one in the fall and one after the new year at McCallie, Baylor hosts a couple, Dalton usually hosts one. Travel meets (Nashville, Huntsville) are strictly optional.
This is a brief overview of year round swimming….please feel free to reply here and I am happy to provide a more in depth summary or answer any questions you may have! I have also attached the MCC/ GPS Aquatics website below. Feel free to poke around on there as it also provides information!
Best,
Erin
